A real opportunity to see a working croft in action.
A unique chance to see one of the island’s major industries in action and a chance to meet and greet crofters going about their daily work.
You will see the animals in their natural environment, learn about the use of the land and discover a bit about the crofting history of our island. You will be taken to the real life set of the documentary series “Air an Lot“ where Donald MacSween proves how young people can make a life out of living and working on the land.
We will also visit the Comunn Eachraidh Nis which houses a local museum, gift shop and cafe.
In addition you will be taken to the moorland to see at first hand the summer houses (shielings) used by crofters in yester year while their animals grazed on the heather, thus allowing new growth on their croftland.
